Where Have All the Writers Gone?

There’s still an opportunity here…

A framed large photograph of an Asian woman painted green, hiding among foliage. Her eyes are bloodshot and her hair is black. This photo was displayed as part of an Art exhibition in Central London.

Things have gotten so pear-shaped on Medium, that in its efforts to rid the platform of scam artists, it ended up penalizing a whole load of writers who loved to…write.

Those of us who didn’t write for the money are still here, lurking in the background like the woman in the photo above.

I started a newsletter on Substack called ‘Monica in NYC’, so you’ll find me there on a casual basis, but I miss the writers who I used to interact with regularly here.

I can’t even remember their handles anymore — it’s been that long. I used to love reading their pieces and leaving comments to find out more.

This is still a space to bare our unadulterated thoughts and I’m grateful for that.

I aim to write about Travel and Food in general, but I might try some copywriting practice as well. If I’m paying for this space, I might as well use it, right?

On that note, I encourage others who are also paying their membership to use this space to try different things. If you normally write fiction, try your hand at nonfiction on a subject you’re expert at, and vice-versa.

Write poetry if you normally don’t. Share a recipe if you normally write about philosophy. Why not?

As I said before, I’ve forgotten many of my writer friends’ Medium usenames. But I’ll tag the ones I remember in the hope that I can encourage you to write again…
