We all have a superpower or two.

It could be reading, writing, listening, speaking, being kind, baking, cooking, loving, creating, analyzing, etcetera, etcetera.

Nurture your superpowers. Don’t let them wither away.

Too bad our public schools kill them in the name of shoving boring curricula and assessments down our children’s throats.

I’m in one of those moods today. But after months of eating, cooking, baking, AND reading and writing about all three of them, I’ve begun to realize that food is something I’m fiercely passionate about — dare I say, more than even writing?

I’ve also noticed that I tweak recipes all the time and don’t use measurements strictly. I use my instincts and get lost in the process. Creativity is what it’s all about.

Too many people are afraid to venture into the kitchen. I’ve also met countless people who will not budge from a printed recipe.

My advice to the novice cook is to dive in, make mistakes, make tweaks, and savor the process.
