Classroom Management is an acquired art. No one starts off being brilliant at it. I wasn’t great at it when I was a rookie. With time, good and bad experiences, reflection, reading, being mentored by superiors and observing master teachers, I got better and better, and am pretty confident with my skills now.

I look forward to teaching even the most challenging students, because I know how to connect with them, with authenticity and respect. I have never, ever yelled at my students since becoming an experienced teacher, and I’m pretty sure you, my reader, will get there, with reflection and patience. Good luck!

My favorite classroom management strategies:

Learn and love their names: As soon as you get the list, go over each and every name. Google them if you have to. Ask your colleagues if they know how to say it. Best yet, send all your students and families a Vocaroo link so they can record their name. Once you get the recording, learn how to say the name. Do NOT neglect this stage.
