How Medium Facebook Groups Can Be Really Powerful, or Not

I love them for this one reason

When I first joined Medium, I didn’t have a clue where to start!

I hadn’t even read too many articles before joining the MPP (Medium Partner Program, and had decided to just go for it. Seemed like a low-risk venture.

The first thing I did was read all the popular writers. I was fired up after reading so many inspirational posts. That led me to joining a few Facebook groups.

The Good

Honestly, these groups helped me learn a lot and engage with others. Users in these groups are generally decent people. They are complimentary and encouraging. Most of them read your story genuinely and clap 50x.

The Bad and Ugly

The more you interact in these groups, you realize that not everyone’s actually reading. It’s clear when there are many ‘fans’ (measured by who’s clapping) but the number of reads are much lower.

Also, some users post their links in response to your story and say they’ve interacted, but you’ll find that they haven’t interacted at all (no claps or comments).
