Anxiety never solved any problems or made anything better. Yet, we’re attracted to it like a moth to a flame.

Job anxiety, college application anxiety, political anxiety, Thanksgiving dinner anxiety. It never ends.

Of course, Nov 5th, 2024, is a momentous day in the US, especially because it’s such a close election. All eyes are on the seven battleground states and it’s intense.

Regardless of whether you’ve voted or can’t vote, live in the US or are citizens of another country, this election is a big deal on a global scale.

Anxiety is off the charts everywhere I look. The news outlets are having a field day fanning the flames of people who get ticked off or affected easily.

So here’s what you can do to lessen the anxiety and enjoy the day.

Whether or not you’ve voted, find a place to sit down. Breathe in and out, and follow your breaths. Imagine each inhale and exhale following a side of the fingers of one hand first, so you track ten breaths on each hand. Repeat with the other hand.

Don’t, under any circumstance, track polls or listen to the news. Avoid all messaging regarding the elections.

Watch an episode of any comedy show that makes you laugh out loud.
