In an article I published in February 2023, I had described my first Zumba class in years. You can read all about it below.

I was terribly nervous, since I hadn’t done a group class in a while, let alone a high-intensity one! But I survived it, and burned a whopping 486 calories in 53 minutes. I was over the moon.

Every Friday morning, women and men from all walks of life and with rich tapestries of personal experiences descend upon this class, led by a highly energetic instructor.

The repertoire ranges from the Gypsy Kings to Bad Bunny. Some, like me, have signed up for the whole shebang. Others drop in when it suits them. Everyone has the same shared goal: to get healthy while having fun.

What have I gained from 3 months of Zumba

My level of fitness

I wasn’t completely unfit but I was no triathlete either. However, this weekly class has kicked my backside and muscles I didn’t know existed. I feel stronger than ever. I see muscle definition and there is a spring in my step. The biggest revelation has been my resting heartbeat. I was shocked to see it in the 50s range as you can see in the image above —…
